2008 Toyota Highlander: Bigger and Better than Ever
The 2008 Toyota Highlander has been redesigned with the family in mind; more power and room, plus some nice added conveniences, have this mid-size SUV stepping up its game. This year marks a complete overhaul for the 2008 Toyota Highlander which gets bigger outside and inside. It’s taller and wider with more hip and leg room for up to 7 passengers, and offers increased cargo space that now measures a whopping 95.4 cu. ft. with the option of a rear power liftgate. The 2008 Toyota Highlander is just about to outgrow its mid-size crossover SUV status.
All models of the 2008 Toyota Highlander come standard with a 3.5 liter V6 engine with 270 hp. This engine allows for strong and smooth acceleration. The previous 4-cylinder engine has been discontinued. The 5-speed automatic transmission is standard on all Toyota Highlander 2008 models; the front wheel drive option gets 18 mpg city and 24 mpg highway, while the all-wheel drive gets 17 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. This puts the gas mileage at about average for comparable vehicles, but it is an increase over the last year’s Highlander; a neat trick since the weight is 300 pounds more and the engine is larger and more powerful. The towing capacity is 5,000 pounds.
The 2008 Toyota Highlander has many standard safety features like: anti-lock disc brakes, stability and traction control, hill start assist, dual front and seat side airbags, 3-row curtain airbags and driver’s knee airbag. The all-wheel drive models also have downhill assist. The 2008 Toyota Highlander earned the top rating for frontal offset crash impact from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Standard features of the 2008 Toyota Highlander include: 17 in. alloy wheels, fold flat third row seat, tilt & telescope steering wheel, air conditioning, and CD stereo. The Sport model Highlander 2008 has 19 in. wheels, sport tuned suspension, a 3.5 in. information display screen, back up camera, leather wrap steering wheel and one-touch fold on second row seats. The 2008 Highlander Limited offers 19 in. wheels, plus power fold and heated outside mirrors, auto dimming rearview mirror, leather seats, 10-way power driver’s seat, dual zone automatic climate control, keyless start, and interior wood trim. The Basic model and the Sport model of the 2008 Toyota Highlander also have a rear air conditioner available as an option. The Limited offers the rear air conditioning and automatic climate control also as an option.
Additional available options for the 2008 Toyota Highlander are the sunroof, heated front seats, rear DVD entertainment center, JBL sound system with Bluetooth, and a navigation system that is only available in conjunction with the JBL sound system.
The 2008 Toyota Highlander offers exceptional visibility and maneuvers easily in tight places. The unibody construction delivers a comfortable ride and the noise reduction is very good, especially the tire and wind noise. With all the extra safety features, and reasonable gas mileage for its engine and size, this has turned out to be quite a make-over for the 2008 Toyota Highlander. It definitely lives up to the Toyota reputation for reliability and quality products you have come to expect.
